My old blog

« | Main | »

January 03, 2008

In October I had a small give-away on ye olde blog, which Josie won.
I made and sent her this little Clanger embroidery:

Framed_clangers

My reason for bringing this up now (apart from demonstrating how slow I am in delivering the goods), is to share a framing tip with you.

I stretched the embroidery over a piece of card and stitched the raw edges together like so:

Stretching_the_clangers

Working in the same way as you would stretch a canvas or the layers of a quilt ready for tacking, start in the middle of each side and work towards the corners, pulling firmly as you go.

This gives the framed embroidery a really good, taut, even finish.

I'm inwardly convinced everyone knows this already which makes me slightly self conscious, or that I haven't done this properly, which makes me blush even more. But I couldn't find instructions in any of my crafting books so I'm posting this on the off-chance that it may be of use to someone!

Thanks for that Sarah - I'm really bad about how I frame things although I have seen a friend do something similar to you. I tend to get to the point of framing and just stuff it in! I love that Clanger stitchery - fab! Lucy x

I love this stitchery so much. Thanks for the framing tip! I still have to frame my Christmas penguins in a proper way!
What material do use to take over the drawing onto fabric. I used a pencil, but after washing the stitchery it still shows.

I love it! As you know. :)

Hey, you showed me something new!

I love this work - especially the link pink guy in the vest! He is the best!

OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am staring at the clangers for hours now I TOTALLY LOVE THEM TO BITS!!!!!!!!!oh how I wish I would have won those!that lucky lucky girl!xoxo

I did not know this and was looking around for framing embroidery advice a while ago and couldn't find a thing! So thank you. Are there other ways that you know of?
