Scarf7_3

This is a scarf I made following the 'argosy' pattern from knitty.com (surely the best knitting resource in the world?!).

Scarf2

It was a really fun pattern to follow- plenty of action but not so demanding that I couldn't knit and watch TV at the same time.

I used a mirasol yarn which knitted up nicely and is dyed in a beautiful array of purples and blues. When I wore it though it drove me mad- the edges kept curling up (does anyone know why?) so it looked as though I was wearing a piece of tatty string!

So I (very nervously) felted it, which worked beautifully and now I love it unreservedly with my whole heart!

Thank you so much for all the lovely wedding congratulations in my last post. I'll definitely be having a virtual wedding, but I'm not sure when to hold it- I'll obviously be a bit tied up on the actual day!
So what do you think? Before or after the 'real thing'?

David_cartoon

I'm posting these new portraits of David and I for all those people who actually know us and didn't recognise us from the images in the previous post! I've been working on these in photoshop this weekend, but I haven't been able to find out how to put the two images together yet. I really want to be able to overlap them so it looks like we're together, which I think is quite important on a wedding invitation(!).
Can anyone help?!

January 15, 2008

2008 is the year of THE WEDDING. Sounds ominous, doesn't it?!
Well, being as we've made no preparations yet whatsoever, it does feel fairly ominous. And so until May the 4th, 'the big day' is all I feel I'm going to have time to work on and think about. (Which is really unfortunate in view of all the excellent swaps going on at the moment).
We really should have the invitations printed and posted by the end of last next week, so I've been working on our portrait:

Cute couple, aren't we?!!
Unfortunately Annie tells me there's no resemblance to us whatsoever! She's conceded that David's hair is about right but everything else is wrong, wrong, wrong apparently.
I'll be back later when I've worked a bit harder on your invitations, bloggy pals!

Here's something I put together before Christmas in an effort to spruce our house up using goodies I'd accumulated over the year:

Fabric_lamps

The postcards are from Habitat, the fabric above is from a little goodness, the one below is an Amy Butler print and the frames are from Ikea.

Here they are together, adding a bit of colour to our previously, very dull walls.

January 03, 2008

In October I had a small give-away on ye olde blog, which Josie won.
I made and sent her this little Clanger embroidery:

Framed_clangers

My reason for bringing this up now (apart from demonstrating how slow I am in delivering the goods), is to share a framing tip with you.

I stretched the embroidery over a piece of card and stitched the raw edges together like so:

Stretching_the_clangers

Working in the same way as you would stretch a canvas or the layers of a quilt ready for tacking, start in the middle of each side and work towards the corners, pulling firmly as you go.

This gives the framed embroidery a really good, taut, even finish.

I'm inwardly convinced everyone knows this already which makes me slightly self conscious, or that I haven't done this properly, which makes me blush even more. But I couldn't find instructions in any of my crafting books so I'm posting this on the off-chance that it may be of use to someone!
