You have to help before they take me away!

I think I'm going to explode! Wedding fever is consuming me. I am totally obsessing over my dress/outfit- and it's killing me. I think I might end up in psychiatric care before I get to the altar!

This is what's bothering me: I've never wanted a big white wedding. That's not the kind of wedding I had in mind. I wanted a much more informal, personal, friendly affair, which is why we're doing registry office and garden party.
And as you know, I don't ever wear dresses. Except for the work Christmas party once a year, for which I've worn the same dress, just shortened or slightly altered for the last three! But I do feel good when I wear that dress, it's a kind of wrap dress.

So, the patterns I'm favouring are these ones:

And as I don't want to wear white, I've found a sort of royal air-force blue/teal jersey that the dress could be made from:

(Yesterday I was thinking purple and the day before cream- this is how tormented I am!)

But I'm worried that it's too informal. I don't want to feel under-dressed... I can put some pretty flower-type accessories in my hair to jazz it all up a bit...

I like these shoes:

But is it all just too 'everyday'? I'm thinking it has a kind of 1940's/second world war aesthetic, but I don't want to look like I've bought my outfit with my ration book!

You've got to help me out... What do you think????? (And I need absolute honesty here ladies!)

You need to wear an outfit that makes you feel special and wonderful. Could you go to the shops and try on dresses both similar in style to the one you are considering and also other styles and see what feels right for the day ?Still personal and friendly but something extra that you wouldn't get from your Christmas Party Frock. I think the fabric is crucial to the look, how 'dressy' the dress is has a lot to do with the fabric and how it hangs. Remember too that whatever you wear, the day will be special, unique and filled with love.

You do want to wear something a bit more 'special' than normal but if you are not comfortable with a fancy dress you could try and achieve this with special jewellery or even new make up. Just spending a bit of extra time getting ready will stop it from feeling like just an ordinary outfit.
ps please will you tell me where the shoes came from? All four pairs are fab!

what happened to the gold dress? huh? ;)

anyway.. love the green shoes (bottom right) & the maggy london orange dress is lovely.
and i love the teal/blue. only thing is i'm not sure about jersey fabric. that might make it too everyday. what about something that looks like a slubby silk? (one that's not too shiny). and the 1940s style is cool.

I love that Maggy London reddy/orange dress but I'm rubbish at choosing my own clothes let alone helping someone else choose for their wedding! You need to feel special but most importantly you need to feel comfortable. Those shoes look great - love the whole 1940sness!

Do you know what would look gorgeous with that colour? A little hat or fascinator with peacock feathers in it... that would dress it up. If I find a pic I'll email it. But that would dress it up.

Oh those shoes I love those shoes but I wouldn’t want to wear them for one day!

As for your dilemma wear your dream outfit whatever that may be. Plus if you create a dress that is not your "typical" wedding dress you will get a whole lot more for your money. Plus think you could wear that dress at your anniversary and just you and your loved one will know just how special that dress is!

Oh I should have said for ONLY one day (my bad!)

Boy -- decisions, decisions! You must rely on others -- I can't even decide on what I will wear to a wedding, let alone YOU LOL!!!

I know exactly how you feel! I went through the same thing last year myself, and decided on a chocolate and gold 1950's style dress that I designed and found a wonderful dressmaker to make from my drawings and I got the fabric online. I got plain wedding shoes and got them dyed to match my dress and I felt comfortable and unique and not a puffball in sight. I am normally a trouser and trainer girl so the thought of looking so different and kind of fake wasn't for me.It is too important a day for you not to be yourself so go with what is in your heart not your head and be your self. Good Luck, and can't wait to know what you decide.

I’m not good in giving advice concerning this magtter. I married in black trousers, black jacket and a stunning white satin blouse! I was rebellious at the time. LOL! I tried on wedding dresses, but even my mother had a good laugh. The most important thing is to wear something you feel comfortable in and with. Don’t go for a colour you normally wouldn’t wear, the same counts for dresses. There are wonderful party trousers/pants (what do you call them??) for a wedding!! Good luck and be happy!!

That color is gorgeous and would look fantastic on a wrap dress like the patterns you've chosen. I think they would look super cool with the shoes you've picked. Maybe (especially if you go with a headpiece of some kind) you can get your hair done up in a 1940's kind of style (you know, with those rolly things in the front).
I wish I would have done something more original for my wedding. I had the typical pretty-pretty-princess white dress and veil and it really wasn't me. Good for you for wearing something you like!
