Dressmaking part 3: Success at Last!

Finally I've made something I can be proud of!

Eliza's dress

When I saw this needle-cord with it's sweet little floral faces in a local fabric shop, I had to snap some up right away! I used a New Look pattern (number 6022), which I've had kicking around unused for 6 years! It was good although I used the experience I gained from the Amy Butler pattern and finished off the internal seams.

P1010017

These are what Eliza calls 'trick buttons' because they hide a whopping great popper underneath. I've justified my avoidance of buttonholes with the excuse that it'll make it easier on her when she goes to school in September and has to get changed after PE... ahem...

Leafy trim

I didn't consult her over the leafy ribbon trim because I was too afraid she'd reject it. Luckily, she approves and loves the whole thing. I may dwell in this comfort zone for a little while, so you can expect less bungled skirts and more little dresses!

Wow, that fabric and dress are adorable!!

Oh, it's just adorable! I LOVE the special touches too -- the button and that leafy trim are just perfect!

Wonderful dress, love the fabric and the magic buttons are an inspired idea!

So pretty! And I love those buttons.

Wow how professional is that?! Very impressed with all your linings and mega straight stitching. And did you say LOCAL fabric shop for that gorgeous needlecord?? (faint!)....

That is by FAR the cutest fabric i have seen in ages!!! And WOW, what a great looking bit of "seamstressery"...beautifully done!

The fabric and the dress look fantabulous! Needle-cord, what a funny name, we call it baby-cord!

Oh Sarah, it looks beautiful and your little girl must love it. Very cute!

This is heirloom! What a perfect marriage of fabric and design. Those little faces.

Yet another reason for me to leave the North and come back to East Anglia...if the local shops sell fabric like that, I am coming HOME!!!
Can I have a dress like that please? I am sure I could get away with it...even at the olden age of 33, and poppers are so much better than real buttons for me when I am getting changed after PE.

You did a wonderful job. I'm making my first real little dress too. The fabric you picked out is just gorgeous.

Oh!! I looove that dress! Wonderful!! xoxo

what a gorgeous little dress... it is the attention to the smallest details that makes it so wonderful. lovely work and a lucky girl who wears it

your girl looked gorgeous at the teaparty in this dress!

Oh my goodness, I'd say so! That is just perfect. Congrats!

Ooooh thank you for my flowers (lost your email addy!!)... Already lost one to DD to pin on her jacket though! Thank you so kind!

oooh - I love that leafy trim!

That fabric is one of the nicest I've ever seen!! and I agree buttonholes can be a pain, what a good idea to use a button and popper instead!
